Commonly Asked Questions
No, we can never fully have a 100% weed free lawn BUT we can certainly do a few important things that make a big difference. Think of pre-emergent as a barrier on top of the soil that prevents weeds from coming up. When the barrier (the soil) is broke for any reason (animals digging/scratching, weed-eater on edges, tires spinning on soil, new landscape install, etc.) then the weed seeds are able to germinate.
The good news is we will spot spray any break through weeds we see along the way!
Pre-emergent sets the stage for the remainder of the season. Weeds are tough and more difficult to get control of rather than preventing them. Seeds germinate when the soil temperatures warm up, so getting down pre-emergent timely and at proper rates are key components to a weed prevention program.
This takes a little more in depth conversation to determine your lawn needs and your goals for your lawn. Many times when a lawn has barely any desirable grasses and is mostly overtaken with weeds, then it may be a good candidate for a complete lawn renovation in the fall. We can help determine the best path for your lawn!
Our aim is to have the best lawns in our Joplin and surrounding areas. A single pre-emergent application will not accomplish this. Our lawn treatment program is designed to make your lawn the best it can be. It is an all-inclusive maintenance package that includes pre-emergent, weed control, fertilization, and more.
Most weed preventers will prevent seed you plant from germinating. Depending on your treatment program and the time of year, our weed preventer may prevent your seed from germinating in the lawn.
On our program, we plan for seeding and weed preventers accordingly.
For cool season grasses (fescue), early spring is the best time to apply pre-emergent. For warm season grasses (bermuda or zoysia), both spring and fall are the best times to apply pre-emergent.
