Aeration
Add-On Service
Core Aeration
A process of pulling plugs out of the lawn to allow water, air, and nutrients to penetrate the root zone while dispersing organic matter and nutrients already existing in the lawn. This process is good to do any time you are seeding or the soil has been heavily compacted.
About Aeration
Lawn aeration is the process of creating holes or spaces in the soil to allow water and air/oxygen to penetrate to the root zone of the turfgrass plant. All plants require water and oxygen in the root zone, compaction and thatch are killers of this. By using a core aerator that pulls 2-4” plugs out of the soil, compaction is relieved and open spaces are created to allow water and oxygen penetration.
Aerating actually stresses your lawn! Turf grass is uprooted and dies on the surface. All the holes where the cores were pulled from are potential home to weeds. But when performed and timed correctly the benefits far out weigh the stress. Consider lawn aerating as a workout. After working out your muscles are stressed but they rebuild stronger.
At PURE we use top notch aerators that can penetrate and pull plugs as deep as 6 inches. We recommend warm season lawns (bermuda and zoysia grass) to be aerated in the Spring and cool season (tall fescue grass) to be aerated in the Fall.
Core Aeration is often done in conjunction with over seeding.
